As the world economy struggles to traverse the fallout of various coronavirus restrictions, EXANTE’s chief economist has been discussing prospective financial forecasts with Bloomberg. Basing his assessment on IMF data, London-based expert Victor Argonov has analysed a targeted sample group of twenty-one emerging economies, announcing that at least nine (including Brazil, Argentina and Peru) have shrunk by at least 5% since the pandemic began. The data is sobering: all but one of these countries are scheduled to post a deficit exceeding 5% of GDP.
