Building upon the momentum of last year’s event, the 2020 Summit will once again take place in Yangon, Myanmar. As the Myanmar government continues with legal and regulatory reforms, and with the drafting of new laws covering e-commerce, Myanmar is poised to join regional players in using e-commerce as a key driving force to rapidly grow its internet economy. As a region, Southeast Asia’s internet economy is expected to be worth $50 billion - with internet users in the region spending an average of 3.6 hours per day on the internet, more than in any other region in the world. By 2025, the internet economy will expand to account for at least 6% of Southeast Asian GDP, according to Google and Temasek. Myanmar’s internet usage is expected to rise with tremendous improvements in broadband and IT infrastructure making internet services faster and more affordable. With traditional retail at 90%, the rapid internet penetration and the emergence of new payment gateways, mobile payment providers and new start-ups will inevitably boost retail e-commerce in Myanmar. According to UNCTAD’s eTrade readiness Assessment on the country, the most important factor for e-commerce development in Myanmar is payments methods for e-commerce. Consumers are expecting faster and more flexible delivery. Current and emerging delivery models will struggle to survive if they do not adapt to a cost-effective delivery solution, which enables them to intelligently consolidate orders into efficient delivery routes that increase route density and drop sizes, and Myanmar is no exception. Last Mile Logistics is of paramount importance. Same-day delivery and last mile logistics are estimated to be valued at more than $1.35 billion this year, with 25% of customers willing to pay extra for same-day delivery.
