Growing as a regional power in Western Africa with its upward trending economy thanks to its rich gold reserves and the discovery of the oil in 2007, electricity and energy holds a crucial place in Ghana’s economy. Through a power project initiated by American multinational conglomerate General Electric (GE), the Ghanaian government aims to create what would be sub- Saharan Africa’s largest power park, providing more than 1000MW to the national grid once completed. With The National Electrification Scheme, Ghana is committed to achieve universal access to electricity by the year 2020, which creates opportunities for international investors aiming for a significant share in the giant projects to be realized and in the country’s energy industry.
