Solarplaza Summit Belgium to highlight the growth opportunities in Belgium’s reignited PV market

This decade will prove critical for Belgium’s energy transition, as significant developments are pushing the industry to more than double the share of renewable energy sources in the electricity generation mix, increasing from 20.9% in 2020 to over 48% by 2030. How will the Belgian solar industry achieve this? The Solarplaza Summit Belgium - taking place on 9 November in Brussels - will unite local and international PV professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities at hand.

In 2022, the Belgian solar market reached 7.9 GW of cumulative PV capacity. This year, Belgium is forecasted to join the ‘GW club’ of solar PV markets, adding more than 1 GW annually, stimulated by the EU-wide process of deregulation and liberalization, incentives aimed at fostering the development of RE sources, and the evolving structure of Belgium’s energy distribution. According to SolarPower Europe, Belgium could stand to add as much as 5 GW of new solar PV capacity between 2023 and 2026. However, grid infrastructure constraints could pose a barrier to renewable energy growth and factors into decision-making surrounding the perpetuation of existing nuclear capacity in Belgium.
