Profile summary

Erhard and Evelyne Heumann founded this Family-owned artisanal winery in 2003 in Hungary’s most famous red wine region - Villány. They took the chance to realize their dream - to produce fine wines offered at reasonable prices. Their passion for wine has already born fruits. Numerous international awards and high scores in tastings are the evidence. Due to the terroir (e.g. climate, soil, and growing season), the region is perfectly suited for red varieties. In most of the years, the grapes ripen optimally. They regard Cabernet Franc and the indigenous Kékfrankos (aka Blaufraenkisch) as their flagship grapes that have perfectly adapted to the terroir. Both varieties result in outstanding wines. For different international wine experts (e.g. Jancis Robinson, MW) Villány produces the best single varietal Cabernet Francs worldwide. The other international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah profit from the climatic conditions too. The vineyards of the Heumann Winery are mainly south-exposed or situated on a plateau. Soil is loess and to a lesser content clay with a varying content of limestone and dolomite. Climate is continental with Mediterranean influence – cold winters but relatively hot summers. Yields are low at 30-40 hl/ha. Over 90% of the vineyards (12 ha) owe the Premium status of the DHC (Districtus Hungaricus Controllatus) Villány. Production is around 35’000 bottles / year.
