Douglas Rosenthal is a structural biologist whose job is to study the architecture of tiny biological molecules, called proteins, which are building blocks of all living things. Rosenthal holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the Case Western Reserve University. As a kid he was curious and creative and enjoyed both science and art. As a visual learner Douglas felt drawn towards structural biology because it allows you to see the architecture of biological molecules in three dimensions and helps in understanding how they function in our bodies. His first position in the field of biology was as a research scientist at the Cleveland Clinic - Lerner Research Institute, in the period from 1995 to 2005. When making his studies, Rosenthal utilizes molecular structures from electron microscopy (EM), x-ray crystallography, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
